South Korean Star Kim Min-jong Denies Illegal Gambling Allegations

(AsiaGameHub) - South Korean singer and actor Kim Min-jong has rejected assertions that he is involved in an unlawful celebrity gambling group. Kim’s representatives described the allegations as “unfounded rumors” rooted in “malicious doubts,” according to South Korean news agency Yonhap. These remarks were made one day after TV personality and singer MC Mong alleged that Kim and several other prominent public figures had formed a betting ring called Badugi. MC Mong leveled the accusation during a live stream on his TikTok account, where he also claimed that business leaders were plotting against him. MC Mong stated that members of Badugi have “provided large amounts of money to women close to me, women I don’t know whatsoever, and women in the entertainment sector” to assist in conducting a smear campaign. However, Kim’s legal team asserted that the allegations were “definitely untrue.” The South Korean celebrities Kim Min-jong (left) and MC Mong (right). (Images: TVZen [CC BY 3.0]; @mcmong_official/TikTok/Screenshot) Kim Min-jong’s Reputation ‘Damaged,’ Lawyers Assert “We plan to hold [MC Mong] legally responsible for civil and criminal damages as needed,” Kim’s lawyers stated. MC Mong claimed that Kim and others had been supplying information to PD Notebook, a TV program focused on investigative journalism. The show airs regularly on the national broadcast network MBC. “[Mr. Kim] has been deeply beloved by the public,” the lawyers added. “These claims have severely damaged his reputation.” “I want to state clearly that the accusations being talked about are not true,” Kim said in a separate statement. Kim rose to stardom in the 1990s, featuring in numerous popular TV dramas and films. His film credits include Trio, the directorial debut of Park Chan-wook, who won the Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix. His more recent film roles include Mrs. Cop (2015), its 2016 follow-up, and 2019’s Rosebud. Kim started a solo pop career in 1992, and also joined forces with another leading actor, Son Ji-chang, to create the pop duo The Blue. Military Service Controversy MC Mong, on the other hand, became famous as a singer in the early 2000s. He later transitioned to variety TV, appearing as a regular guest on prime-time programs like 2 Days & 1 Night. But his rapid ascent ended suddenly in 2011 when a division of the Seoul Central District Court convicted him of having healthy teeth extracted to evade compulsory military service. The court gave him a suspended jail term and mandated that he perform community service. This incident sparked controversy in South Korea, where all men are required to serve approximately two years in the military. His TV opportunities dried up after the scandal, though his music career eventually recovered. Since then, MC Mong has faced additional unrelated charges, including failing to declare more than $70,000 in cash when departing the country. Gambling-related offenses are back in the public eye in South Korea as the June 3 local elections approach. A political opponent accused Kim Dae-jung, the current education superintendent of South Jeolla Province and Gwangju, of “lingering around a gambling establishment” during an official work trip. Kim has since acknowledged visiting an overseas casino located in the hotel where he was staying. However, the superintendent has maintained that he did not gamble during his visit. Ireland Conducting Investigation into Suspicious Bets on Alleged Crime Boss in Election at Polymarket

(AsiaGameHub) - Ireland’s Finance Minister Simon Harris stated that he has requested officials to conduct a full in-depth review of suspicious trading activity on election-related markets hosted by Polymarket. Addressing the Banking and Payments Federation conference held in Dublin on Tuesday, Harris noted that prediction markets have turned into “a kind of Wild West where people are placing bets in the form of cryptocurrency in a secretive, murky and unregulated manner.” More than $1 million worth of trades have been placed on the Dublin by-election, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 22. Harris expressed concerns over the large sum of money being staked on the race. “One does have to ask themselves, why are so many people from potentially outside our jurisdiction interested in using Polymarket in relation to the Dublin Central by-election?” Harris remarked, in comments published by the Belfast Telegraph. Largest Share of Trading Volume Tied to Purported Crime Boss Out of the total $1,142,177 traded across the by-election markets, $525,389 of that volume is linked to Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch, an alleged organized crime leader. Hutch rejected money laundering allegations against him this week. He told The Sun, “The Gardai (Irish police) came over to Spain and raided my house and took all my paperwork and went back to Spain and told the Spanish that I’m money laundering.” “It’s bulls**t. The Spanish are just being misled by the Gardai and I’m not involved in crime. I have been in me past, but I’m not involved in crime.” Hutch is purported to be the head of a criminal syndicate that carried out two of Ireland’s largest armed robberies in 1987 and 1995. The two heists are reported to have earned the gang £4.7 million ($6.3 million). Hutch also faced trial over the murder of David Byrne in 2016. The killing was believed to be retaliation for the murder of Hutch’s nephew, Gary Hutch, during a gang feud. Hutch was extradited from Spain to Ireland in 2021 and held in custody until he was ultimately found not guilty in April 2023. He has stated that he left his criminal past behind after he was released from prison. Gambling Practices and Possible Money Laundering Under Official Scrutiny Election betting is legal in Ireland, though Polymarket does not hold a gambling license in the country. Harris said he considers wagering on the platform to be gambling, and that holding discussions with the national gambling regulator is a priority. He also raised an alert over “the potential concern that this is a vehicle that could be used in terms of money laundering”. He did not allege that any candidates in the election are suspected of improper conduct, but noted that he could not rule out “in a broad sense, the idea of activity that may not be kosher”. He added that he has no concrete evidence of such activity taking place. Several other countries have blocked Polymarket over its election wagering services. The Netherlands blocked access to the platform and issued a fine to the company earlier this year. In total, 33 territories are listed as blocked on Polymarket’s official site, including the UK, though Ireland is not among them. Polymarket Rolls Out Prediction Markets Tied to Private Company Performance In a separate development that could open the door to further suspicious wagering activity, Polymarket announced it will launch new markets centered on the performance of private companies. “These new offerings give individuals exposure to some of the most sought-after private companies for the first time, while providing a new real-time signal for institutional investors on how private markets are unfolding,” the firm noted in a press release published on Tuesday. Nasdaq Private Market, a provider of liquidity and investment infrastructure for private markets, will act as the official resolution data provider for these new markets. Shayne Coplan, Founder and CEO of Polymarket, appeared unconcerned that insiders could use the markets to profit from confidential, non-public information. “For the first time, anyone can engage with the outcomes driving value at the world’s most consequential private companies,” he stated. Coplan has previously said he believes insider trading on the platform’s markets is a positive feature, describing it as cool. “I think what’s cool about Polymarket is that it creates this financial incentive for people to go and divulge the information to the market and the market to change, and all of a sudden it’s trading at 95 cents,” he explained during an interview held in November last year. Polymarket declined to issue a comment on the investigation into suspicious betting linked to the Irish by-election. This article is provided by a third-party. Chinese Gamblers Jump from Second-Story Window to Flee Thai Police Raid

(AsiaGameHub) - Multiple suspected Chinese gamblers suffered severe injuries after jumping from a second-floor window during a Thai police raid on an illegal betting den. According to Thailand-based media outlet Thai PBS, law enforcement officers carried out a raid at a location in Pattaya, a widely popular holiday resort city. Investigators state that the gambling den catered to high-spending "VIP" Chinese poker players. Chonburi Immigration Police, in collaboration with Tourist Police, surrounded a house in Nong Prue Subdistrict after receiving a tip-off from a member of the public. The whistleblower reported that they suspected a group of Chinese nationals were engaging in illegal gambling inside the property. Officers followed up on the lead by dispatching an undercover agent posing as a food delivery courier, who confirmed the tip-off was accurate. ‘Chinese Gamblers Jumped Onto Hard Tiled Ground’ Police subsequently raided the house, where they stated they found a group of Chinese gamblers "fully engrossed in a poker game." Chaos broke out immediately, with all participants "scrambling in all directions and attempting to flee," according to police. At least three of the suspects leaped from the windows, all of whom sustained injuries upon landing on the hard, tiled ground below. Rescue workers are reported to have administered first aid before rushing the injured suspects to a nearby hospital. A news report from Thailand’s Ch7 News featuring police footage of the Pattaya raid. Police released video footage from the raid, which showed one apparently severely injured individual being carried to an ambulance on a stretcher, seemingly unable to move on their own. The footage also showed police ordering a large group of suspects to sit on the floor as they read out their legal rights. Police also released images of gambling chips, score cards, and a variety of other gambling paraphernalia seized at the scene. An Exclusive VIP Gambling Den During a search of the house, authorities stated they found evidence that the entire property had been converted into a "VIP gambling den." They found rooms fitted with poker tables, along with high-value gambling equipment. Investigators seized roughly 100,000 baht ($3,000) in cash. Officers confirmed they arrested 16 people at the scene, all of whom are Chinese nationals. A police official stated that three of the arrestees were women, and the rest were male. Police said they will inspect the arrestees’ travel documents to determine if they entered the country illegally or overstayed their visas. Detectives have filed initial illegal gambling-related charges against all 16 suspects. Earlier this year, Thai officials extradited a Chinese man suspected of running the illegal Wanhe Soccer portal. Chinese prosecutors say the portal was a front for a $73 million pyramid-style scam, whose victims were primarily based in Mainland China. The suspect, surnamed Huang, first fled to Cambodia before traveling to Thailand, where he was ultimately arrested. Huang is currently being held in prison in China’s Tianjin Province, pending the start of his trial. This article is provided by a third-party. Isle of Man receives Royal Assent for Data Asset Foundations legislation iGame

Isle of Man receives Royal Assent for Data Asset Foundations legislation

(AsiaGameHub) - The Isle of Man has officially received Royal Assent for its Data Asset Foundations legislation, establishing what the government and its partners are calling the world's first legal framework designed to recognize and manage governed data assets. Following the granting of Royal Assent, the initiative is now moving into its implementation phase. Digital Isle of Man has indicated that the subsequent steps will involve the creation of a Data Asset Register, the development of supporting regulations, and the construction of the necessary operational systems to manage the framework. A key component of this legislation is a statutory Data Asset Register, which will serve to record, categorize, and oversee recognized data assets. Digital Isle of Man has stated that consultations regarding the register and its registrar model have already been conducted, and industry feedback is currently being incorporated into the drafting of regulations and operational guidelines. Tim Johnston MHK, Minister for Enterprise, commented: ‘Receiving Royal Assent represents a significant and historic achievement for the Isle of Man, underscoring years of dedicated effort to conceptualize and legally enact something entirely novel globally. ‘As the first jurisdiction worldwide to fully implement such a framework, the Isle of Man is showcasing the potential that arises when innovation, collaboration, and regulatory adaptability converge with a clear long-term vision.’ Aga Strandskov, Head of Data Strategy at Digital Isle of Man, stated: ‘While many organizations already acknowledge data as a crucial business asset, they have lacked the legal clarity required to utilize it with full confidence. This new legislation provides precisely that. ‘The current focus is on developing the broader ecosystem, operational capabilities, and practical implementation necessary to advance the next stage of the program. The Register, along with its supporting regulations and operational infrastructure, are all active workstreams currently progressing rapidly. ‘For businesses, this opens up genuine commercial opportunities that were previously challenging to pursue within existing legal and operational models, ranging from governed AI training datasets and trusted cross-organizational collaboration to new avenues for data sharing, financing, and value creation.’ John Bottega, President at EDM Association, remarked: ‘Globally, there is an increasing demand for clearer structures that govern, facilitate the sharing of, and ensure the responsible use of valuable data. ‘The Isle of Man's initiative reflects a broader trend towards more sophisticated and scalable approaches to trusted data governance that foster both innovation and accountability.’ This article is provided by a third-party. Xtremepush Launches XpertOS – The Future Operating System for CRM Teams iGame

Xtremepush Launches XpertOS – The Future Operating System for CRM Teams

(AsiaGameHub) - Xtremepush, the category leader in igaming CRM and loyalty marketing, today announced the launch of XpertOS, a seamlessly integrated, fully live AI platform poised to completely disrupt the industry and reshape how CRM teams will operate moving forward. Just as the internet search industry underwent a seismic shift following the arrival of ChatGPT, the launch of XpertOS signals a similar transformation for CRM and how marketing professionals work in igaming and other regulated sectors. Xtremepush customers will immediately be able to advance their capabilities and grow their CRM output exponentially, moving from ineffective add-on tools to an integrated, custom-built AI-powered solution equipped with relevant content and native brand tools. Personalization at scale will be easily within reach, paired with the confidence that comes from governance built into the platform’s architecture by long-time industry experts. XpertOS’ compliance-first architecture is a three-tiered product solution built to adapt to teams’ operational readiness, starting with the ‘Xpert Assistant’ — a tool that will feel familiar to anyone with AI chat experience, and acts as an entry point for managers focused on ideation and broader strategic planning. ‘Xpert Flows’, the next tier, integrates with core workflow tools including Jira and Slack, and operationalizes the CRM system with human-in-the-loop governance and fully transparent campaign execution. ‘Xpert Crews’ deliver the most advanced support to CRM teams, consisting of brief or goal-driven simulated agent teams that operate autonomously in specialized roles across functions from compliance to copywriting. These trusted ‘teams’ draft campaigns and iterate on them in real time, leveraging Xtremepush’s unique unified data architecture to deliver optimal outcomes that CRM managers can monitor, unpack the logic of, and steer as needed. Combined, these three tiers allow human teams to deliver on their strategic visions and focus on core objectives of lifting customer lifetime value, reducing churn, and cutting cost per conversion, while delivering higher output without sacrificing execution quality. From now on, creativity is the only limit, not a business’s operational capacity. This tiered adoption path is exclusive to Xtremepush. It allows customers to find effective solutions that work seamlessly with their existing tech stacks, optimizes headcount output and resource allocation, guarantees content relevance (for example by conducting detailed research into the latest news and odds via custom feeds), and thereby helps teams focus more heavily on high-level strategic goals. A unique feature of XpertOS, and a critical safeguard for CRM teams, is that compliance is enforced by the platform’s core engine, not by the AI itself, ensuring that AI intelligence and governance functions operate in separate architectural layers. “This is the end of today’s CRM as we know it,” said Tommy Kearns, CEO and co-founder at Xtremepush. “XpertOS is the sector’s first fully functional agentic operating system, and marks a shift as fundamental as any we’ve seen in this space over the past two decades. “Thanks to the governance layer built into its core, we firmly believe this will replace the traditional step-by-step manual martech platforms in use today: existing teams handle all critical judgement calls, while the AI handles the heavy lifting work. The work process that will be ubiquitous across the industry in 18 months is available right now. “XpertOS automation replaces the slow, incremental campaign execution of the past, elevating CRM executives into strategic architects, backed by a hard-coded governance and compliance layer that empowers human-in-the-loop oversight and supercharges personalization, as well as engagement and retention metrics.” Built with a visual ‘Control Room’ that displays approval checkpoints and interaction logging, XpertOS is purpose-built for use in heavily regulated industries, where compliance and transparency are top priorities. XpertOS Key Takeaways: Find: Identifies commercially valuable customers that CRM teams currently lack the tools to reach. Govern: Checks every campaign for compliance before it goes live. Scale: Enables CRM teams to run 10x more campaigns without hiring additional staff. XpertOS is available immediately for Xtremepush’s existing customers, and can be integrated quickly and scaled appropriately for new partners in time for key strategic sporting and campaign events. Tommy Kearns, CEO & Co-Founder, and Adam Palmerini, Senior Director of Product & Enablement, will host a live webinar titled “XpertOS Live!” on 3rd June, 2026. Flashscore survey shows 47% of UK fans predict England will reach the 2026 World Cup Final

(AsiaGameHub) - Most Anticipated Final: England vs. Spain (33%)Squad Confidence: 60% believe the current team surpasses previous onesTournament Format Doubts: 54% of critics believe the 48-team format prioritizes profit over sporting qualityLate-Night Viewers: 75% of younger fans will watch England's matches after midnightNew research from Flashscore, a leading global provider of live sports information, indicates a significant rise in optimism among UK sports fans regarding the 2026 FIFA World Cup.Despite potential logistical hurdles and a revised tournament structure, almost half of the UK population anticipates England will advance far into the competition. The study, which surveyed 2,000 UK sports fans, revealed that 47% predict England will reach the final. A highly anticipated final matchup between England and Spain was favored by 33% of respondents.Confidence in the Squad: This optimism is fueled by a high regard for the current national team. Over 60% of fans believe the present England squad is superior to those in previous World Cups, with 23.3% rating it as "much higher." Fans highlighted the experience of key players as the team's main strength, although concerns about injuries and player fatigue persist.Generational Divide on Format Changes: However, the research also highlights distinct differences in opinion regarding some of the most significant alterations for the 2026 tournament. The decision to have multiple host nations—the USA, Canada, and Mexico—is particularly divisive. While over half of younger fans support this change, only 22% of those aged 55 and above are in favor. More than half (51%) of UK fans who view this decision negatively cite increased costs for supporters as a primary concern.Similarly, the expansion to a 48-team tournament divides opinion along generational lines. While 66% of 18-24-year-olds support the change, 44% of those over 55 believe it is a poor decision. The majority of UK fans who consider the expanded format to be a negative development believe the expansion has been driven primarily by commercial interests, rather than by a desire to enhance the quality of the competition.Midnight Matches and Fan Loyalty: The 2026 tournament will feature unconventional kick-off times for viewers in the UK, but younger fans are prepared to adapt. Over 75% of 18–34-year-olds stated they "definitely" or "probably" will watch England matches live, even if they commence after midnight. This figure drops to 17% among those aged 55 and older. The survey also confirms that while national pride is strong, club football remains the primary focus of daily engagement. The England national team is ranked as the sixth most popular "team" in the UK, falling behind several Premier League clubs. Nevertheless, individual players remain iconic: captain Harry Kane leads the list of favorite male players, followed by Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Cole Palmer, and Jude Bellingham.Despite the increasing prominence of the European Championships, 58% of UK fans believe the World Cup offers a higher overall standard of football, compared to just 10% who prefer the Euros. Interest in the tournament is already high, with 60.1% of men and 53.2% of women planning to follow the competition "extremely closely."View the full survey here: World Cup Survey 2026 UK This article is provided by a third-party. IWG Launches Must Go Jackpots with Kentucky Lottery, Introducing a 24-Hour Guaranteed Win Cycle iGame

IWG Launches Must Go Jackpots with Kentucky Lottery, Introducing a 24-Hour Guaranteed Win Cycle

Instant Win Gaming (IWG), a leading provider of eInstant games for lotteries that are members of NASPL and WLA, congratulates the Kentucky Lottery for being the first lottery to introduce Must Go Jackpots, IWG’s newest progressive jackpot program. (AsiaGameHub) - Must Go Jackpots introduces a new 24-hour win cycle to the eInstant game category. In this program, a progressive prize pool accumulates through game sales and is guaranteed to be awarded before the cycle concludes. An on-screen timer displays the remaining time until the jackpot must be won, adding a sense of urgency for players. The Must Go Jackpots program creates a clear sense of momentum for players as the prize grows and the next guaranteed payout nears. Once the jackpot is claimed, the prize pool and timer reset, establishing a continuous cycle of anticipation and winning opportunities. This latest development further enhances IWG’s range of progressive jackpot offerings, providing lotteries with another adaptable option for eInstant games featuring jackpots, designed to attract a wide variety of players. Similar to IWG’s other progressive jackpot programs, Must Go Jackpots is supported by the company’s InstantRGS (remote game server). This allows for efficient implementation without requiring development assistance from a lottery’s iLottery platform provider. Jason Lisiecki, Executive Vice President at IWG, stated: “Must Go Jackpots exemplifies our ongoing efforts to advance the eInstant jackpot sector with innovative concepts that generate player excitement and deliver value to lotteries. Its guaranteed 24-hour win cycle fosters frequent moments of anticipation and memorable winning experiences. We commend the Kentucky Lottery team for being the first to offer this new progressive format to players, and we anticipate launching Must Go Jackpots with more lotteries in the coming months.” Matt Nichols, VP of Product at the Kentucky Lottery, commented: “Must Go Jackpots has generated significant enthusiasm since its introduction, offering our players a novel jackpot experience with the excitement of frequent, guaranteed prize moments. We are delighted to be the first lottery to launch this new IWG program and to continue expanding our eInstant portfolio with innovative games that provide more ways to play and win.” This article is provided by a third-party. Indonesian Elementary School Children Exposed to Online Gambling, Government Warns iGame

Indonesian Elementary School Children Exposed to Online Gambling, Government Warns

(AsiaGameHub) - Indonesian elementary school children are facing increasing exposure to online gambling, according to a government warning. The comments were made by Meutya Hafid, the Minister of Communication and Digital, as reported by the Indonesian media outlet Harian Disway. Hafid stated that, based on government estimates, nearly 200,000 children in Indonesia have been exposed to online gambling. Of this total, 40% are under 10 years old, she added. Meutya Hafid, Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital, speaking at an event last month. (Image: @meutya_hafid/Instagram) “We have heard several heartbreaking stories from members of the community,” the minister said. “[Gambling] doesn’t just involve financial losses; it also destroys children’s futures and family [bonds]. We must all work to stop this together.” Hafid called on Indonesian mothers to “be the main bulwark at home.” “Protect our children from the dangers of online gambling from an early age,” she urged. “Reject gambling, protect your family, and safeguard your children’s future.” We Must Protect Indonesian Elementary School Children, Says Minister Indonesian government agencies and law enforcement bodies continue to crack down on online casinos. In recent years, the government has cut benefits to entire families where it has found a single member has gambled online. Jakarta has also frozen hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of funds in over 30,000 citizens’ bank accounts. The government uses an automated platform to comb commercial bank transaction data for evidence of casino deposits or withdrawals. The purge has also resulted in scores of operators and punters being arrested, jailed, or subjected to corporal punishment. A crackdown on Instagram-based female social influencers who use their pages to promote online casinos has seen courts jail several young women. But online casino operators continue to target Indonesian users. The police say illegal sports betting is also expected to rise during this summer’s soccer World Cup. A Complex Threat Hafid said the government will continue to rise to the challenge. She said new digital literacy and public awareness campaigns will help fight the rise in illegal web-based gambling. “We are not just blocking access to sites or taking them down,” said the minister. “The most important thing is to reach the wider community with our messaging, so that awareness grows within families and communities.” Hafid added that the online gambling operators now pose a more complex threat. Previously, she said, threats primarily involved the spread of hoaxes and cyber fraud. But online gambling has since “evolved into a social threat that impacts the behavior of society, even children,” she said. The minister concluded: “Online gambling is a scam. The platform operators use a system that ensures that players almost always lose and fail in the long term.” This article is provided by a third-party. Growth at Siberia’s Only Casino Slows as Construction Starts on Russia’s New Gambling Zone iGame

Growth at Siberia’s Only Casino Slows as Construction Starts on Russia’s New Gambling Zone

(AsiaGameHub) - Revenues at the Altai Palace, Siberia’s only casino, continue to rise, but growth has slowed dramatically, with net profits on the decline. The development may come as a warning for the Kremlin, which has recently approved an ambitious plan to create a new gambling zone just a few dozen kilometers away. In its annual financial report, Altai Palace posted revenues of over $15 million, a 3.3% rise compared to last year. However, last year’s growth exceeded 17%, leading many analysts to believe the casino was on an irreversible upward trajectory. Siberia’s Only Casino: A Warning to Developers? Land-based casinos are illegal in Russia, except for five designated gambling zones. One of these is the Siberian Coin zone in Altai Krai. That number will soon increase to six, following the Kremlin’s approval of a Sberbank-backed proposal to establish a casino and a luxury hotel in the nearby Altai Republic. Altai Palace’s net profits fell by nearly 5%, while gross profits also declined by 0.1%, according to Russian media outlet NGS22. A roulette table at the Altai Palace casino in Siberia, Russia. (Image: @altaipalacecasino/Facebook) This news raises questions about the viability of the new development in the Altai Republic. Experts have described the planned casino—to be located at the existing Manzherok ski resort—as being “on a par with those in Macao.” Sberbank is Russia’s largest commercial bank and one of the country’s wealthiest corporations. Nevertheless, the developments at Altai Palace may give the developers pause for thought. The media outlet reported that the casino operator attributed the slowdown in growth to “a combination of economic and geopolitical factors.” These include an unstable international environment, sanctions imposed by the US, EU, and UK, heightened uncertainty in capital markets, and a weakening ruble. As officials were considering the Altai Republic proposal last year, industry experts urged the Kremlin to abandon the plan. Instead, authorities recommended that the Kremlin consider approving a gambling zone on the outskirts of Moscow. Moscow’s Casino Pivot Casino expansion plans are also underway in another Russian gambling zone: Kaliningrad. Shambala, which operates casinos in Kaliningrad’s Yantarnaya zone and the far-eastern Primorsky Krai, announced it has received approval to build a five-floor luxury hotel and casino complex atop its current single-story facility in Kaliningrad. Gaming executives are calling on lawmakers to support the Ministry of Finance’s proposal to legalize online casinos. The ministry seeks to impose a 30% annual tax on online operators, after subtracting payouts. Meanwhile, in the Perm region, a court has sentenced two individuals to more than four years in prison. A Perm District Court found the pair guilty of running four illegal gambling clubs in Perm and Krasnokamsk between September 2022 and December 2024. The court also ordered 11 female accomplices, identified as gambling den employees, to pay “substantial” but unspecified fines, according to Russian media outlet Tsargrad. New York Senator Proposes Ban on Billboard Gambling Ads iGame

New York Senator Proposes Ban on Billboard Gambling Ads

(AsiaGameHub) - Advertisements for sports betting and other forms of gambling on public billboards could soon be outlawed in New York, should a state senator have her way. Last week, Democratic Senator and former New York State Assembly member Nathalia Fernandez introduced a bill proposing a ban on billboard advertisements promoting “gambling or sports wagering services.” The legislation must pass through the Senate’s Committee on Consumer Protection before it can reach the floor of New York’s upper chamber. In addition to gambling-related ads, Fernandez’s bill also seeks to prohibit all digital and traditional billboard advertisements for tobacco, alcohol, and vaping products. The draft bill explicitly includes within its scope “fantasy sports, lotteries, sweepstakes involving consideration and prize, […] and interactive gaming.” The measure further defines any activity involving the placement or facilitation of wagers or bets for money or anything of value as gambling. New York Billboard Gambling Ads Ban: An Alternative Option? The same senator has introduced a second bill that may prove more acceptable to pro-gaming advocates and New York-based gambling operators. Fernandez’s alternate proposal, submitted on the same day as the first, would require the state government to remove gambling-promoting billboard ads “exactly upon the last day of the advertising contract” and replace them with a public service announcement highlighting the health risks of gambling. Under current New York state law, all gambling-related billboard advertisements are required to include messages about problem gambling, such as contact information for addiction hotlines. These warning messages must occupy at least 5% of the billboard’s total face area, according to existing regulations. Gambling Billboards: Stoking Controversy The legality of gambling-related billboard advertisements varies significantly across U.S. states. States like Alaska, Maine, and Vermont allow certain forms of gambling but have imposed complete bans on related billboard advertising. Other states, including Utah and Hawaii, have banned gambling entirely. In Utah, lawmakers have reportedly sought to outlaw prediction markets—a move that could bring them into conflict with federal financial regulators. This potential clash arises from statements by the Commodities and Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and its Chairman, Michael Selig, who maintains that only the CFTC holds authority over prediction markets. Earlier this month, Selig clarified that prediction market platforms and traditional gambling venues like sportsbooks and casinos are “two separate things.” He described prediction market platforms such as Polymarket as “financial markets,” while characterizing conventional casinos as a form of “entertainment.” Gambling billboard advertisements have also sparked controversy internationally. In recent months, several prominent buildings and transit hubs in Minsk, Belarus—including the National Library of Belarus—have displayed digital screens promoting various gambling services after dark. (Image: Martin Cígler [CC BY-SA 3.0]) Last year, numerous social media users voiced concerns over the widespread use of digital billboards advertising gambling services at some of Minsk’s most iconic locations. Notable examples include the National Library of Belarus, a landmark situated in the heart of the Belarusian capital. This article is provided by a third-party.
